Ed co-founded LionBird following a 25-year career at Abbott Laboratories where he served as Executive Vice President of Diagnostic Products, overseeing over $4B in revenues and 13,000 employees. Previously he held various commercial and operational leadership positions in the company. Ed served on the Board of Directors at Cook County Health and Hospitals System from 2012-2013, and currently serves on the Boards of NeuMoDx, a molecular diagnostics company, and several LionBird portfolio companies. He earned his BA in politics and government and a juris doctorate from Indiana University in Bloomington.

Chaim Friedman

Managing Partner

Chaim is an experienced business developer with over 20 years of hands-on involvement in growing technology companies. He co-founded STARLIMS, a global informatics provider, and directed its financial and commercial operations including the company’s 2007 Nasdaq IPO and subsequent $123 million acquisition by Abbott in 2010. Following the acquisition, Chaim joined Abbott to develop a scouting setup for new technologies and science originating from Israel’s growing biomed and academic sectors. Chaim holds a B.Sc. degree in economics and management from the Technion – Israel Institute of Technology.

Itschak Friedman

Venture Partner

Itschak Friedman leads the LionBird Advising Founders team, applying his vast experience to coaching the portfolio companies from technological road map development through first sales and delivery. Previously Itschak served as Divisional Vice President and General Manager of Abbott Informatics Solutions, where he helped develop Abbott’s long-range informatics strategy. Prior to joining Abbott he co-founded STARLIMS and served as President, CEO and Chief Architect until the company’s sale to Abbott in 2010. Itschak holds a BSc in Geology and Earth Sciences from the Hebrew University.

Jonathan Friedman

Jonathan has been involved early stage companies since 2008, when he founded Green Revolution, a direct sales and e-commerce startup. He is in charge of scouting, screening, and supporting startups for LionBird, and frequently shares his thoughts on the VC industry at vcpov.com. Jonathan holds a BA degree in Economics and Organizational Studies from the University of Michigan, and an MBA in Entrepreneurship and Innovation from IDC Herzliyah.

Eric Fenster

Eric started his legal career in the international hi-tech practice groups at Yigal Arnon and Herzog, Fox, Neeman. Since then, he’s developed expertise in advising entities taking equity and/or strategic positions in technology companies, as well in advising technology companies at all levels of maturity. Eric earned an LL.B. from Tel Aviv University in 1999 and a B.A. in History and Political Science from the University of California, Santa Cruz in 1991.

Jason Gardner

MARQETA, FOUNDER & CEO

Jason founded Marqeta after serving as president and a member of the board of directors at PropertyBridge – a leading provider of rent payment platforms for property managers – which he co-founded in 2004. MoneyGram International (MGI) acquired PropertyBridge in October 2007. After the acquisition, Jason served as vice-president and a member of the MGI executive management team. Jason is a regular speaker at electronic payment industry events and has authored numerous articles for industry trade publications. He earned his BA from Arizona State University.

Eyal is an expert in financial services and technology management. As a Vice President in Battery Ventures, Eyal led many projects and investments in the areas of finance, machine learning, SMBs and SaaS. Notable examples are IDI Direct Insurance, Istra Research, Cortera, cVidya, Leadspace, Champions Oncology, Relay Foods and Sportority. Prior to his work in Battery Ventures, Eyal was one of the first employees of Old Lane, a $5.5B NY based global hedge fund (later acquired by Citigroup), and also worked for Castle Harlan, a leading $6B NYC-based buyout firm. Eyal earned his MBA from The Wharton School of Business at the University of Pennsylvania.

Jim is Managing Director of Tyree Capital Partners, a private equity firm focused on investments in promising, underperforming businesses in the Midwest. Prior to founding Tyree Capital Partners in 2012, Jim had a distinguished 15 year career at Abbott Laboratories, where he held senior executive roles in the Pharmaceutical, Nutrition, and International divisions and served as President of Abbott Biotechnology Ventures. Before his career at Abbott, Jim held executive positions at Triangle Pharmaceuticals, Bristol-Myers Squibb, and Pfizer. Jim is currently a director of ChemoCentryx, SonarMed, and iBIO, and serves on the advisory boards of the Polsky Center of Entrepreneurship at the University of Chicago and the Kellogg Center for Biotechnology at Northwestern University.

Haymi is a seasoned digital media & marketing professional with focus on monetization & online community building. In one of Europe’s most prominent news outlets, Hürriyet, he is currently leading online marketing & revenue generation efforts of content & community properties. He is also co-founder of content marketing start-up Boomads, headquartered in Berlin. Previously, Haymi was the founding CEO of Turkey’s first online kids and youth platform Tipeez.com, and in less than 2 years, he turned it into Turkey’s largest online kids community with over 2 million users. Haymi earned a B.A. degree from Hebrew University in Social & Political Sciences and an M.A. degree from Leiden University in European Management Studies.
